Director of Advancement

The National Women’s Health Network is seeking an experienced, energetic and creative person to lead all aspects of the NWHN’s fundraising efforts, including individual giving, foundations and strategic marketing efforts. The Director of Advancement creates and implements the NWHN’s development plan, and manages the work of the NWHN’s membership department, directly implementing strategies in select areas, identifying emerging opportunities relevant to the NWHN’s mission and priorities, managing department staff, and guiding the engagement focus of NWHN’s communications efforts. We are looking for a leader who has an understanding of the emerging trends in development and marketing, significant relevant experience, and a commitment to the NWHN’s mission and values. This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C., reporting directly to the Executive Director.

Key responsibilities:

  • Direct individual giving and major gifts program, including planned giving
  • Assist with drafting and editing of foundation proposals and reports
  • Utilize the NWHN’s strategic plan to identify and develop opportunities for fulfilling the organization’s fundraising goals
  • Collaborate across teams to develop the most effective systems for outreach and relationship management
  • Support board fundraising efforts
  • Oversee annual fundraising benefit event
  • Produce written content about the NWHN appropriate for multiple audiences including NWHN members and supporters, and funders

An ideal candidate will have these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with membership-based nonprofit organizations
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven, effective managerial and supervisory skills
  • Skilled at building and maintaining relationships
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) tools and fundraising databases
  • Experience working in a senior level staff position with a Board of Directors
  • Capable of working in a fast paced environment and completing task independently and under pressure
  • Knowledge of health, women’s health, and/or scientific issues a plus
