The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Risk Management (RM) DirectorateFinancial Risk Department (FRD) ALM and Financial Risk Division (ALM), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a:

(Senior) ALM Analyst

This is a full time position

The term of this contract will be 4 years

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs, with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Purpose

To contribute to the optimization of the ALM, , funding and lending functions of the Bank through the provision of specialized support to the division on analyzing and processing financial data in order to report on the contribution of each activity notably by maintaining and enhancing the Transfer Pricing System, prepare business projections, analyses, stress tests and reports essential to the realization of the COP exercise, the ALM strategy, and any other forward-looking simulation involving the financials of the Bank. The activity is performed with evolved IT systems and tools, implying ongoing relationships with IT Department, enhancing awareness on data quality issues and taking initiatives for the improvement of databases used by the division, as well as through the active participation to the monitoring, management and reporting on related risk exposures in order to minimize risk and achieve set return targets for the Bank in the framework of the EIB objectives.

Operating Network

The (Senior) ALM Officer reports to the Head of Corporate Analysis Unit within the ALM and Market Risk Division and in close collaboration with the Head of Division. S/he works closely with the departments involved in Corporate Services, Finance, Lending, Financial Control, Information Technology, Inspectorate General (Internal Audit). S/he also interacts with peer institutions, consultancy and audit firms, supervisors and regulators for data, IT and risk management matters.

Accountabilities

  • Report on the contribution of each activity to the Bank’s Net Surplus using the Transfer pricing System and be able to analyze the evolution of such results
  • Contribute to the production of the ALM & Financial Risk section of the EIB’s Monthly Risk report, Outlook and Dashboard
  • Perform projections, simulations, stress tests and analyses on the financials of the Bank (especially, but not limited to net surplus, NII, funding, gearing, leverage, cost coverage etc.) to the benefit of the planning and/or risk reporting exercise
  • Respond to ad-hoc demands related to the content of the post
  • Control the coherence and reliability of the databases used by the risk management tools of the Bank
  • Maintain and update of the Financial Risk and ALM Policy Guidelines and related procedures and methodologies
  • Control compliance with approved procedures and policies
  • Follow the latest best banking practice evolutions on relevant subjects, especially data integrity
  • Proactively assist the Head of Division and Head of Unit in the relevant activities of the division and provide guidance to more junior staff in the conception/execution of risk processes and use of risk applications
  • Ensure back-up of tasks in the other areas of activity of the Unit/Division

Qualifications

  • University degree, preferably in Mathematics, Economics, Finance
  • Post-graduate studies in these areas would be an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant professional experience in ALM and / or accounting
  • In-depth knowledge of IT issues, with specific emphasis on database management, data quality, ALM calculation and projection tools
  • In-depth knowledge of internally-used IT systems like WSS (FK), Business Object and Algorithmics. Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s standard computer tools
  • Knowledge of ALM and market risk management techniques (theory, principles and practices)
  • Knowledge of quantitative and financial modelling tools (e.g. yield curve modelling, VaR methodology, BpV calculation, transfer pricing systems, capital allocation models)
  • Knowledge of how financial markets (money-market, capital markets and derivatives) operate
  • Practical experience of ALM tools and processes
  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good command of the other language. Knowledge of other European Union languages would be an advantage
