IRC resettles refugees through a Cooperative Agreement with the US Department of State. The Processing Unit assists with all operations related to refugee placement, travel, and arrival. Processing team members are in daily contact with overseas Resettlement Support Centers (RSCs), the Refugee Processing Center (RPC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and other partners to facilitate refugees’ safe arrival to the US.The Processing Specialist will apply technical skills in completing a variety of tasks in accordance with standards set forth by the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. The Processing Specialist will also advise local resettlement staff on program updates and assist with training if needed.

Major Responsibilities

  • Process assurance requests according to standard operating procedures and deadlines, including amended assurances and case change reports.
  • Respond to field office inquiries regarding case statuses, and follow up as needed. Communicate with RSCs and other resettlement agencies regarding assurances and transfers as needed.
  • Review and distribute daily and monthly RSC caseload reports to field offices.
  • Provide back-up support to other Processing Specialists on family reunification applications.
  • Work closely on all matters pertaining to refugee processing in coordination with other Processing team colleagues.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Processing.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years of experience in refugee resettlement field preferred; demonstrated knowledge of the US resettlement program a plus;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners;
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity and ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; exceptional attention to detail;
  • The ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment; aptitude for ongoing learning and adjusting to frequent changes in processes;
  • Strong computer skills: facility with Microsoft Office and email/internet software; familiarity with IRIS and WRAPS a plus.
