The Financial Capability Program Manager position offers a unique opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to operate a program to increase the financial capability of individuals with disabilities in Washington and Oregon. The Financial Capability Program Manager will work with trusted partner organizations, volunteers, and directly with individuals with disabilities and their families to support program participants with identifying and reaching target financial goals.

Financial Capability Program Manager

The Financial Capability Program Manager position offers a unique opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to operate a program to increase the financial capability of individuals with disabilities in Washington and Oregon. The Financial Capability Program Manager will work with trusted partner organizations, volunteers, and directly with individuals with disabilities and their families to support program participants with identifying and reaching target financial goals.

About Northwest Access Fund: Northwest Access Fund (NWAF) is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) established by and for individuals with disabilities. We promote access to technology and economic opportunity for individuals with disabilities living in Washington and Oregon. NWAF offers affordable financing (low interest loans and matched savings accounts) for assistive technology needed for any purpose and for business equipment needed for employment and self-employment. NWAF also offers services to enhance financial capability.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Financial Coaching: Provide one-on-one coaching to participants with disabilities and their families (in-person, over the phone, and online). Assist participants with goal-setting, budgeting, credit building, debt repayment, savings, utilization of quality financial services and products, asset development, and referral to certified benefits planners. Monitor participant progress toward financial goals. Follow up with participants on referrals to other financial services professionals when applicable. Maintain files and data for all participants including a Financial Well-being Assessment, credit report, appointment notes, and personalized action plan.
  • Volunteer Management: Identify, train, and manage a pool of volunteer financial coaches. Provide necessary training, support, and resources to volunteer financial coaches to ensure successful provision of financial capability services.
  • Financial Education Classes: Develop and conduct financial education classes, workshops, and webinars. Oversee participant performance at onsite financial education classes and workshops.
  • Data Collection, Evaluation, and Reporting: Collect and verify all required data from participants throughout the program, including data from Financial Well-being Assessments, financial coaching software (LifeCents), training, classes and workshops, and referrals. Evaluate program outcomes regularly to ensure programmatic efficacy. Report program data to Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Resource and Referral Development: Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key community partners, including training and management of volunteer financial coaches. Identify resources, services, and referral relationships needed to support participants in achieving financial goals.
  • General Program Support: Provide support, as needed, to other core programs including cross-training in other service areas. Assist with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and to operate a successful program.
  • Policy and Guidelines: Observe all guidelines related to confidentiality. Follow regulatory and quality control requirements. Work to ensure that satisfaction is a priority of the coaching program. Facilitate and offer reasonable accommodations to participants.
  • Travel: Travel regionally for training, coaching sessions, and occasional meetings as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s in Social Work preferred, will consider commensurate experience.
  • Financial services expertise: The applicant should have a background in financial coaching, banking, asset development and/or a related economic development field. The applicant should have experience working with low-income individuals and families in one or more of the following areas: financial goal setting; budgeting; credit building, and debt management; utilization of quality financial services; asset development; and public benefits support. If applicant is not already certified as a financial coach, they must be willing to complete required training and certification.
  • Disability and diverse community expertise: The applicant should have knowledge of disability-related issues, including economic and personal financial issues, either through professional or personal experience. Applicant should be comfortable and able to effectively work with a diverse constituent population; experience with assistive technology and implementing reasonable accommodations is desirable. Bilingual applicants who are fluent in English and Spanish or ASL preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with the public and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and handle multiple tasks efficiently, with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent with numbers.
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office software, and experience with data management.
  • Outstanding integrity
