Overview of position:

The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
In more than five decades, the agency has helped more than tens of millions of people restart their lives. Today a staff of some 6,600 people in more than 110 countries continue to help more than 34 million persons. To help and protect some of the world’s most vulnerable people in so many places and types of environment.

Role objectives:

The objective for this is to create a community cohesion in one of the refugee campsites in Souda.

Expected output:

Work on social cohesion projects and other cross-community programs.

Use media to improve public opinion through the promotion of refugee stories and other cross community initiatives.

Support camp management in the establishment of community committees and in the planning of focus group discussions.

Project reporting:

This role reports to the Project Coordinator.

Understanding of the work and mandates of the UN.

Understanding of humanitarian principles.
Good research, analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clear concise and brief reports.
Computer literate and well versed in the use of the Internet, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
Ability to work in a multicultural setting.
Must be prepared to work in a sometimes difficult and hazardous environment.
