JOB SUMMARY: The Quality Institute at United Hospital Fund works to advance the best use of quality information to target improvement priorities, develop the next generation of quality leaders, identify and spread best practices for tackling critical health challenges, and promote strategies that help health care providers focus more closely on patients’ needs and ensure that desired outcomes are achieved. The Program Manager will engage in program management, research, data analysis, writing, editing, preparing and delivering presentations, producing reports and other content, and convening activities in support of the Quality Institute’s major initiatives and projects.


  • Participates in the development and management of quality improvement initiatives consistent with the goals and priorities of the Quality Institute.
  • Provides project management support, technical assistance, and program planning and implementation for project-specific meetings, teleconferences, and webinars. Specific responsibilities include: preparing proposals, timelines, and work plans for initiatives; planning, executing, and evaluating meetings with stakeholders, including presentation development and delivery and follow-up with external partners, speakers, and participants.
  • Works with administrative staff to oversee logistics of meetings and production of reports, deliverables, and presentations.
  • Develops data collection tools and other resources to facilitate project activities and compiles results for reports and other purposes.
  • With senior leadership from the Quality Institute, works extensively with external organizations, including trade associations, health care providers and plans, and clinical and other subject matter experts, to develop agendas, content, and resources for quality-improvement-related initiatives, meetings, and webinars.
  • Assists teams of clinicians across health care settings, including outpatient clinics, acute care hospitals, and nursing homes in developing and implementing quality improvement activities.
  • Reviews literature and evidence-based practices to develop project ideas and content.
  • Organizes the completion of deliverables and ensures that all milestones and deliverables are met within specific timeframes. Produces initial drafts of progress and final reports as appropriate.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of project evaluations and the reporting of results.
  • Contributes to publications, articles, and web content for internal and external audiences. Works closely with UHF Communications staff on publications and web content.
  • Assists in UHF grantmaking activities including development of RFPs and internal evaluations of grant applications.
  • Contributes to conceptualizing and preparing grant proposals for efforts by the UHF Quality Institute to seek external funding support.
  • Provides support as needed on all Quality Institute initiatives and projects and contributes to effective and efficient functioning of the Quality Institute team.


Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: Master’s-level preparation (degree or substantial coursework) in health policy, public health, or administration, or related field; 3-5 years of professional experience in program development, management, or research related to health care quality improvement.

Knowledge and Ability: Strong written and oral communication skills; quantitative and qualitative analytic skills; and effective relationship-building and facilitation skills are essential. The ability to work independently as a project facilitator or leader and as part of a team are required. Excellent interpersonal skills; a mature and positive perspective, flexible, courteous, willing to learn new skills, and motivated to actively participate in a team-oriented environment. Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office, superior project management and organizational skills, presentation skills and attention to detail are also needed to succeed in this position.
