The RSA is looking for an experienced and proactive Management Accountant to assist the management of the charity and its trading subsidiaries to make the best use of financial resources.

The successful candidate will have practical experience of management accounting in the charity sector, strong Excel and communication skills, be CCAB part-qualified and have a keen interest in the work of the RSA. The nature of the role and the small team mean that the Management Accountant must both be able to work at a strategic level but also be prepared to be hands on in the delivery of the work of the team.

It is expected that the Management Accountant will work directly with staff from across the organisation to understand their business and use this understanding to add value to the analysis of the RSA’s finances. This will require the post holder to be familiar with the RSA’s many activities, such as Action Research Centre research projects, initiatives to engage Fellows in the work of the RSA, delivery of a successful hospitality service, how a bustling Archive operates and implementing a topical lecture series.

Examples of how the successful candidate will be adding value to the organisation over the coming year include:

  • Working with the RSA’s research and consultancy services, delivered through the Action Research Centre and RSA Shipley Enterprises Ltd, to improve expenditure and overhead forecasting to increase profitability.
  • Working closely with the RSA’s outsourced provider of hospitality services, Harbour and Jones Ltd, to produce accounts for RSA Adelphi Enterprises Ltd.
  • Developing a new chart of account for use with a new accounting package starting 1 April 2018 and Improving the financial analysis provided to the Trustee Board as well as the Executive Team and Boards of Directors of the trading subsidiaries.

The Management Accountant reports to and deputises for the Head of Finance in a Finance Team of five, also including two Finance Officers and a Financial Controller. Successful implementation of this role will also require close working with the COO and other members of the Executive Team.
