Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading

UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and

non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

A global mental health strategy is being developed for IOM staff. As part of this, work is needed to develop educational material on well-being and mental health as well as creating a global directory of accredited mental health professionals and services.

The Intern will work under the guidance, coordination and supervision of the Staff Welfare

Officer and in cooperation with other colleagues in the Field Missions and IOM Headquarters.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Staff Welfare Officer, and in accordance with the overall direction of the Medical Director, the Intern will focus on supporting the development of a global directory of mental health professionals (including teleservices) and material on mental health and wellbeing.

The Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Develop agreed educational material and programmes on wellbeing and mental health for the intranet etc.

  2. Develop a template for a Staff Welfare Quarterly Bulletin

  3. Create 10 articles on mental health and wellbeing for the bulletin.

  4. Identify potential mental health service providers in countries in which IOM is based

  5. Determine what accreditation and licensing procedures have been utilised by the providers

(face to face and tele)

  1. Create a directory of such providers in Excel

  2. Undertake any other tasks as requested by the Staff Welfare Officer

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• University degree in psychology or counseling.

Experience

• Strong background in psychology/counselling/mental health services;

• Computer literacy, especially database tools;

• Strong organizational skills;

• Ability to timely understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios;

• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;

• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines;

• Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;

Languages

• Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

The incumbent will acquire technical knowledge in the Social Welfare Division. He/She will also gain in-site experience in working with an international organization.
