These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) and Country Offices (COs) and Area/Field Offices. Job holders report to Logistics Officer, a Head of Unit, or the designate.

At this level, job holders are expected to take responsibility for completion of a range of processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines/practices for all assistance modalities for both WFP and logistics common services. Job holders are able to recommend a course of action to staff at various levels and may allocate tasks to other support staff.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for tracking of cargo held by the Logistics Cluster on behalf of the humanitarian community, inclusive of the following duties:

Assist with logistics cluster operations including all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and costeffective delivery of cluster cargoes;

Gather and follow up requests for transport and storage from humanitarian partners. Act as focal point for customer requests;

Maintain an organized filing system for all related documentation

Work closely with WFP transport & warehousing focal paints in all logistics hubs to fulfill transport and service requests;

Liaise with WFP Logistics focal points, transporters and other actors for the purpose of filtering.

Crosschecking data for the tracking system, and ensure that cargo tracking documentation is received and updated into the system.

Maintain the RITA tracking system and reconcile with physical inventories in collaboration with WFP warehousing staff

Liaise with transport, storage and Information Management officers regarding the gathering and dissemination of tracking data for publication in strips, reports or logistics cluster information products as required;

Compile and disseminate the required LTI, withdrawal and shipment arrival notes and other documentation required by WFP logistics focal points in the execution of transport and storage requests where required

Assist in the training of new cluster staff, particularly ensuring that staff are adequately trained in logistics Cluster tracking systems when required;

Liaise with logistics cluster partners on commodity tracking processes, cargo status and reporting procedures;

Liaise with WFP warehouse focal point to ensure conformity with regulations for storage of cargo in logistics cluster storage locations;

Assist in contingency planning and logistics preparedness reviews for the logistics cluster;

Perform other related duties as required.


Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.

Expereince: At least four years of progressively responsible work experience, including at least three years of experience in the field of logistics.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English


(Additional skills, which the candidate should possess to provide a competitive edge versus other candidates) Knowledge of Humanitarian Logistics.

Working knowledge (level C) and/or limited knowledge (level B) of other WFP official languages depending on area of work.

Knowledge of warehousing operating systems.


Experience utilising computers, including word processing, spreadsheets and other standard software packages and systems.

General knowledge of UN agencies
